Apple announced their new iPhones on September 12th, 2018. It was announced in the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino. Apple calls their lineup of iPhones as the best lineup. But, I call it the most expensive iPhone lineup.

Here's everything you need to know.

New iPhones

On september 12th, Apple announced their brand new flagship smartphones. They are iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max. They also released a budget smartphone iPhone Xr.

Pricing

It seems that Apple is planning to increase the prices of iPhone every year. Last year iPhone X was priced $999 (Rs.89,000 in India), for the 64GB variant. This year iPhone Xs starts at $999 for the 64GB variant (Rs. 99,000 in India). It gets even more expensive. The 512GB iPhone costs around Rs.1,34,000 and it gets even more worse iPhone Xs Max costs Rs.1,44,000 in India. Well you can get a high end gaming rig for that price.

The iPhone Xr, which apple calls "Budget Smartphone" (they didn't really call like that but, many people have assumed that it is the budget smartphone from Apple for 2018), costs around Rs.70,000 in India and goes up to Rs.90k+ for the 256GB variant. This is a ridiculous price for a smartphone and that it is a "Budget Smartphone".

Specifications

All the three iPhones that were announced will come with Apple new 7nm A12 Bionic Chipset. This is a break through in the mobile processor industry. A11 Bionic was already the most powerful mobile processor in the world. This time, it gets even better. According to Apple, A12 Bionic is said to deliver 50% increase in graphical performance and a 30% increase in CPU performance.

The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max will have 4GB ram and the iPhone Xr will come with 3GB ram. The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max will support Gigabit-class LTE while the iPhone Xr will support only LTE Advanced.

All the iPhones released have second generation FaceID, which enables faster face detection.

Camera

The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both come with a dual camera system on the back that consists of an f1.8 12MP wide-angle lens and an f2.4 12MP telephoto lens. The cameras have new and upgraded sensors over the iPhone X last year and Apple claims it will produce pictures with greater detail and sharpness.
The same front-facing selfie camera that was on the iPhone X is back on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The selfie cam is a 7MP camera with an f2.2 aperture that can record 1080p video and Portrait Mode photos as well!
The new A12 Bionic chip has a new feature Apple calls SmartHDR, which is able to produce HDR photos in faster and with much better detail and exposure.
Plus, the Portrait Mode can not only let you apply lightning filters, but the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will let you adjust the depth of the photo with a slider in the edit screen. This will allow you to take a photo and adjust the level of blur in the background!

Video Improvements

The video capabilities are the same as the last year's iPhone X, meaning you can expect the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max to have the following video specs:
  1. 4K video recording at 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps
  2. 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps
  3. 720p HD video recording at 30 fps
  4. Optical image stabilization for video
  5. Slo‑mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps
Apple says that with the new A12 Bionic chip combined with the new sensors in the cameras on the back will provide better low-light video and performance.

IP68 Certified Finally!

Both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max come with an IP68 ingress protection rating, meaning it's even more water-resistance than last year's iPhone X.
The IP68 theoretically means the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max is "protected from long-term immersion up to a specified pressure by the manufacturer." Apple hasn't announced that pressure as of yet.

Battery Life

Apple states that the iPhone XS will last up to 30 mins longer than the iPhone X, while the bigger iPhone XS Max is quoted as lasting 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone X from last year.

Conclusions

Although the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are very good smartphones, it is just way to expensive for what features you get along with it. If you have an iPhone X, there is no need to upgrade to this device as it quite similar to the iPhone X. You can also go for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 instead of iPhone Xs. For half the price, you get a lot of features that the iPhone doesn't have.

Just think about it.

That's been it. Thanks for reading!
